War Before the Storm Observations
Even though there was no GASO taking place this weekend, the GASO guys were still in the gym as we got plenty of fresh evaluations from the War Before the Storm event over at GameOn in Fort Worth. And with a bunch of high level teams and players under the same roof, The War gave us plenty of early grassroots season notes and thoughts on prospects from all over the state. Mass, Lyndon and Timmins share their standout performers from the event below.
Class of 2026:
Jayden Buchunam (2026) - ASAK 3SSB 17U - Austin St. Andrew’s
Buchunam’s physicality and explosiveness set the stage for a very impressive outing from the entire ASAK 17’s group in the game I watched, but I think this is a prospect with only upside ahead of him. His frame already looks college ready and his versatility on offense could easily convince college coaches to take an interest. I expect big things from him as we move towards the summer live periods. -Lyndon Cook
Beau Billingsley (2026) - Southern Assault 17U 3SSB - Norman (OK)
Beau is one of my favorite PGs to watch. That started at last year’s live event when his toughness and fight—even in a loss—stood out. He’s crafty, creative, and built to thrive alongside high-level talent. His ability to get teammates in the right spots and deliver the ball in rhythm is what makes him special. -Ryan Massad
TK Taylor (2026) - Texas Impact UA 17U - San Angelo Central
Taylor has flown under national radars up until this point but I feel like this summer could be one where he blows up in a big way. His skillset and long frame will command plenty of college attention, and when he’s attacking the rim and hitting shots the way he was Saturday… let’s just say I have a feeling I’m going to be getting louder about his as a “must recruit” prospect. -Lyndon Cook
Caleb Richard (2026) - IFN 17U UAA - Mansfield Summit
Caleb had a stretch in the game I watched that was unreal. First, he was everywhere defensively, causing havoc. Then, he took over offensively, scoring 10 of his team’s 12 points to shut the door on a comeback attempt. He’s settling in, and college coaches need to have him on their radar all summer long. -Ryan Massad
William Mulumba (2026) - Gulf Coast Blue Chips 17U - Houston PSAT
Physically imposing with great shot blocking instincts, Mulumba made a huge impression this weekend by dominating the paint on both ends of the floor. His motor ran non-stop and that showed up in a big way with Mulumba making multiple efforts per possession on defense, especially as a help side rim protector. Made a loud impression on his trip to DFW. -Lyndon Cook
Class of 2027 & 2028:
David Baliraine (2027) - Southern Assault - Hallsville
If he just continues to RUN & JUMP all day everyday, he’ll see a lot of stars next to his name. Powerful forward with crazy upside. -Michael Timmins
Mason Shephard (2027) - Southern Assault 16U 3SSB - Rockwall
No Kavian Bryant this weekend for Southern Assault’s 16U 3SSB? No problem. Mason stepped up and made his presence felt, particularly in pick-and-roll situations. He’s got modern guard skills, an uncanny ability to finish, and knocks down shots at a high clip. Keep an eye on him—his game is evolving, and he’s making real noise. -Ryan Massad
Peyton Jones (2027) - Gulf Coast Blue Chips 16U - Silsbee
He’s starting to fill into his body. He was in total control & looked like a different level than his competition. Size, speed, and quickness were at a high level. -Michael Timmins
Brayden Williams (2027) - AB Elite 16U EYBL - Boswell
Williams and teammate Beckham Black were probably the most impressive backcourt duo I saw this weekend, with Williams’ shotmaking and smooth offensive game getting to shine against top tier competition. His ability to exploit space and make reads based on how he was being guarded were standout traits throughout the weekend. -Lyndon Cook
Reese Alston (2027) - Cooz Elite
High level guard that is a + rebounder for his position. He’s able to rebound and PUSH which makes Cooz even more dangerous in transition. -Michael Timmins
Drew Guy (2027) - Texas Impact 17U UAA - Episcopal School of Dallas
I watched Texas Impact take on Family Ties, and Drew Guy stood out. Any time a young point guard steps up to the 17U level, it grabs my attention. While everything wasn’t perfect, I saw a 6’4” PG learning and adjusting in real time. He’s got the body, athleticism, and skill set to take a major leap—it’s just a matter of time. -Ryan Massad
Bryant Robinson (2027) - 3D Empire Puma 16U - Frisco Lone Star
He’s A DUDE & this might have been a breakout weekend. Coach Shawn Ward can run any set in his playbook & Robinson can execute. 3 Levels Of Absolute buckets when I was watching! -Michael Timmins
Armani Green (2027) - Max Levels P32 16U - Arlington Sam Houston
Armani was relentless getting downhill in the game I watched against Southern Assault 16U 3SSB. He’s starting to fill out and stretch out physically, and I believe college coaches should start taking notice this summer. With his upside, he’s got a real chance to shoot up the rankings as he continues to develop. -Ryan Massad
Johnny Green (2027) - AB Elite 16U EYBL - Dallas Bishop Dunne
While I know the headlines won’t mention him much, Green’s ability to operate out of the mid-post and play-make in space was super impressive to see. -Michael Timmins
Max Moody (2028) - YGC PRO16 15U - Round Rock Stony Point
Moody’s ascent in the 2028 recruiting class continues to be on a clear uptick. His craftiness and poise as a finisher fits his overall game, as defenders were unable to speed him up and he always seems in control on the perimeter. His combination of long arms and ability to elevate and finish over the top point to a very bright future ahead for the Central Texas prospect. -Lyndon Cook
